Itoh, a member of the Playism team who I met at the recent BitSummit event, greeted me at the door. ( Jpn Site/ Eng Site) This was the second time I’d visited this restaurant. The event was celebrating the second birthday of the Japan focused indie game distribution service Playism. The event was held at an Italian restaurant called “Ezu”. So, I left my coffee shop in my brother’s care and headed over to Osaka. For some reason at that event I was asked to speak a little, and that’s what drew me back into the world of game development. After I graduated I didn’t really have anything to do with the gaming industry, until I attended an event called ‘Behind Cave Story’ at Culture Culture in Odaiba. I’m also producing the music for his upcoming title Glasses. I’ve known him since we were at college together, and over the years I’ve play tested a bunch of games for him, including Cave Story. Daisuke Amaya, known to many as ‘Studio Pixel‘. I imagine a good number of readers have found their way here via Twitter, so I’ll introduce myself real quick. The following is a translated account of our 2 year anniversary party by Shuhei Miyazawa. Fortunately for us, Shuhei Miyazawa (aka Room 909) beat us to it, putting together a fantastic post that showcased all the fantastic stages we had set up, and the host of developers that joined us for the event. and European versions) Challenge must be unlocked by completing the main game, and consists of several difficult stages that test the player's skills.Earlier this week we teased that we would be putting up a blog post about our recent two year anniversary (and NIGORO’s 6th). (this mode is entirely absent from the U.S. The Japanese version of the game featured an exclusive game play mode called Challenge. New to Galaxies is the feature to resume the game from any completed stages, marked by checkpoints. In addition, the S.Option ("snake option") is not present however, the player can choose to have the computer assign weapon power-ups automatically or leave it manual. Unlike Gradius III, there are only two shield options: Shield and Force Field. Each configuration is differentiated by a palette swap for Vic Viper. There are four different types of weapons configurations: Balanced (traditional Gradius), Wide Area ( Salamander), power, and Air-to-Ground. The weapons system remains mostly unchanged as the configurations available are identical to Gradius III, with the exception of a weapon edit mode. All of the usual Gradius staples are present: Moais, an unguarded final boss, and the Power Meter. The player takes control of the Vic Viper spacecraft attacking onslaughts of enemies. Gradius Galaxies plays almost identically to other titles in the series. Now, as the people's distant memories return from the ashes, a new battle is about to begin. Seeing this, a faint hope glowed within the old man's heart. The old man was convinced that the ship was the Vic Viper, a super-spatial temporal fighter he had heard of in legend as a child. Reflected in his eyes was the white vapor trail of a combat ship in flight traced against a crimson-dyed sky. Then one day, an old man looked up to the sky. With their planet in flames, the people of Ramiles -powerless to counterattack- were crushed with despair. After impacting on Ramiles, the DNA program in the meteorite immediately activated itself. One of those fragments entered into a wide-range orbit and, after 400 years, returned to the Gradius system as a meteorite. As a result, countless planetary fragments embedded with self-breeding DNA program of an enemy biological weapon were scattered into space. Soon after, the startling truth was revealed.Ĭenturies before, Gradius had destroyed the fortress planet of its enemy, the Bacterions, in a final, decisive battle. The federal government of Gradius viewed the situation gravely and immediately commenced an investigation to shed light on the mystery. Moreover, communications ceased from all spacecraft navigating the region. Ramiles, the fifth planet in the peaceful and prosperous Gradius system, suddenly lapsed into silence.

It all began with a single meteorite impact.
